City Government

The City of Wolf Point was incorporated on July 15, 1915 and is located in the northeast corner of Montana in Roosevelt County.The city has a commission-executive (mayor-council) form of government. The city council consists of eight elected council members who are elected from four wards on a partisan basis for four year overlapping terms of office. The mayor is elected at-large for a four-year term of office. The city council which is the legislative body of the city, is responsible for determining the policy direction for the city. The mayor, who is the chief executive, is charged with carrying out that policy and administering the day to day affairs of the city government.The population of Wolf Point is 2,621 according to the most recent census.(2010 CENSUS).This classifies the city as a city of the third-class (jurisdictions between 1000-5000 population).

Officers of a Third-Class City Consist of the Following:

One Mayor/Chief Executive Officer-Elected;

Two Alderman/Councilman from each of the four (4) wards - Elected

One City Judge–Appointed by city ordinance

Appointments by the Mayor, with the advice and consent of the council are:

One City Attorney

One City-Clerk Treasurer

One Chief of Police; and

Any other officers necessary to carry out the provisions of Title 7, Part 41

City Council may prescribe the duties of all city officers not prescribed in code, by ordinance and fix their compensation
