On Saturday, March 1, 2008 Wolf Point lost one of its own in a fishing accident at Fort Peck Lake in Valley County, Montana. Matthew A. Golik had been serving as the Mayor of the City of Wolf Point since his appointment in July, 1999 and subsequent elections in 2001 & 2005.
Matt was born on November 4, 1948 in Conrad, Montana and grew up in Malta and graduated from Malta High School in 1966. He attended Bismarck Junior College in North Dakota where he met and fell in love with his future wife, Kay Jordahl. They married on December 27, 1969 in Minot, North Dakota. They were blessed with two children, Aaron and Jacob. Matt graduated from Minot State College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry.
Matt worked for MT Dakota Utilities since 1971 and was currently the District Manager in Wolf Point. Matt loved anything involving the outdoors including hunting, fishing, and camping and especially enjoyed spending time with his boys and grandson. Even with his work and family, Matt was kept very busy in his immediate community and beyond. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, Elks Lodge as well as Mayor of the City of Wolf Point.
Memorials may be made to the Wolf Point Volunteer Fire Department, Wolf Point Police Department, Wolf Point 100 Club or Valley County Search and Rescue.
